DaysofPal- The Palestinian Governorate of Jerusalem announced that Israeli occupation has begun concrete measures to enforce a law requiring the suspension of electricity and water services to buildings operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in occupied Jerusalem.
In a statement released Tuesday, the governorate said the Israeli occupation has started issuing formal notices in preparation for implementation, signaling an intensified campaign against UNRWA and its essential institutions in the city.
According to the statement, the Israeli electricity company has delivered warnings ordering the disconnection of power to UNRWA facilities located within the separation wall, with enforcement scheduled to take effect within 15 days.
The action is based on legislation approved by the Knesset on December 31.
The governorate added that Israel’s “Gihon” water company has also issued separate notices announcing plans to cut water supplies to UNRWA-operated properties in Jerusalem.
Initial assessments suggest that at least ten UNRWA facilities are affected, including schools, medical clinics, vocational training centers, and administrative offices, among them the agency’s main headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
The Jerusalem Governorate cautioned that these measures could severely disrupt education, healthcare, and relief services provided to Palestinian refugees in the city.
It noted that the Israeli Knesset granted final approval to the law in late December, passing it in its second and third readings by 59 votes in favor and seven against.
The governorate described the move as a blatant breach of the United Nations Charter, international law, and relevant international resolutions, particularly UN General Assembly Resolution 302, which established UNRWA to provide services to Palestinian refugees pending a just resolution to their cause.
