The Israeli occupation forces have issued a chilling warning to evacuate the premises of Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital in Gaza, raising concerns about the lives of approximately 70 children in the facility. This troubling development was confirmed by Ashraf al-Qidra, the spokesperson for the Gaza Ministry of Health, who urged for immediate international intervention to avert the looming threat of a devastating airstrike on the hospital, and to prevent the further deterioration of Gaza’s already fragile healthcare system.
Al-Qidra, in a statement made on Tuesday, decried the dire situation, emphasizing that the international response to protect Gaza’s health sector remains inadequate, particularly as the region grapples with the ongoing Israeli aggression that has resulted in the deaths of over 10,000 Palestinians and left more than 25,000 injured since the conflict escalated on October 7.
Three other hospitals in Gaza, namely Al-Shifa Hospital, Al-Qids Hospital, and the Indonesian Hospital, were targeted by Israeli occupation warplanes last Friday. The director of Al-Shifa Hospital revealed that this attack not only violated international laws but also resulted in 13 fatalities and 65 injuries due to the shelling of ambulances at the hospital’s entrance.
Adding to the mounting crisis, Gaza’s medical facilities are grappling with severe electricity and medical supply shortages, jeopardizing the lives of the injured. Medical teams are operating under immense psychological stress, and hospitals are struggling to accommodate the overwhelming influx of patients, primarily due to a shortage of essential medical supplies required for surgical procedures.
Some wounded individuals have succumbed to their injuries due to a lack of available treatment, further underscoring the urgency of the situation. Reports suggest that the hospitals are overwhelmed with the wounded, with at least 60 Palestinians losing their lives or being injured during the Israeli shelling at the hospital’s entrance last Friday.
The Israeli occupation forces have been conducting a relentless military campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7, spurred by heightened tensions in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
