Israeli occupation court denied on Monday, August 7, 2023, the early release of the 60-year-old Palestinian prisoner, Walid Abu Daqqa, from the city of Baqa al-Gharbiyye in the occupied-1948 territories.
Abu Daqqa, who has been detained for 38 years, suffers from a rare type of cancer called myelofibrosis, affecting his bone marrow, and he is currently held at the “Ramla Prison Hospital.”
During his long imprisonment, Abu Daqqa played a prominent role in various aspects of prisoners’ lives, producing books, studies, and articles that contributed to understanding and resisting the prison experience.
His family and the campaign for his release stress that any decision not to release him immediately is akin to a death sentence, given his extremely critical health condition, as acknowledged even by the Israeli Prison Service report.
The Israeli occupation sentenced Abu Daqqa to life imprisonment, which was later increased to 39 years in 2018.
