Days of Palestine – Gaza

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) fired Tuesday 12 April 2022 tear gas canisters at Palestinian shepherds in the east of Khan Yunis governorate in the southern Gaza Strip.

Local sources said that IOF, positioned in military towers east of Khan Younis, heavily fired tear gas canisters at shepherds east of the town of Khuza ‘a east of the governorate, forcing them to withdraw from the herding area.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

IOF often shoot at Palestinians who approach the Gaza-Israel border fence within a few hundred meters, whether to work on their lands or herd their cattle.

Israel prohibits Palestinians in Gaza from being within 300 meters of its border, which it calls a buffer zone, and frequently fires on farmers and anyone else who approaches those areas.

In March, In the Gaza Strip, on at least 24 occasions, IOF opened fire near Israel’s perimeter fence or off the coast, presumably to enforce access restrictions; no injuries were reported.

In two incidents, five Palestinians from Gaza, including a child, were arrested by Israeli occupation forces reportedly while attempting to enter Israel through the fence.

A Palestinian man from Gaza was arrested by Israeli forces at the Erez crossing.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces leveled lands near the fence inside Gaza, damaging at least 19 dunums of planted crops.
