Israeli occupation naval boats targeted Palestinian fishermen’s boats in the waters off the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday morning, July 15, 2023.
Palestinian local sources reported that the Israeli boats opened fire with their machine guns at the fishermen’s boats and their nets deployed at sea.
The attack resulted in the loss of a net belonging to one of the boats in the northern Gaza Strip’s Al-Waha area. No injuries or arrests were reported.
The Israeli naval boats deliberately inflict harm on the fishermen and deprive them of their livelihoods. They relentlessly pursue them at sea, vandalize their equipment, seize their boats, and target and arrest some of them.
Since the beginning of the year until the end of June, the Israeli naval forces have arrested 15 fishermen and injured 5 others.
Moreover, they have carried out four confiscation operations of fishing equipment, according to Nizar Ayash, the head of the Palestinian Fishermen’s Syndicate.
In addition, the Israeli air, land, and sea blockade imposed since 2006 banned the Palestinian fishermen in Gaza from buying items needed to repair fishing boats. These items included motors, propellers, fiberglass, and many others.
Israeli occupation forces withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2006. However, Israel still controls every aspect of the Palestinians’ lives in the besieged enclave.
