Israeli naval boats targeted fishing boats in the waters off the northwestern coast of Gaza City on Wednesday morning, August 9, 2023.
Local sources reported that Israeli occupation forces opened fire on fishermen working in the maritime area near Sudaneya, without causing any injuries.
Israeli naval forces repeatedly pursue fishers in the Gaza Strip, alleging their crossing of the designated fishing zone. This zone is allowed up to 6 nautical miles north of the Strip and 15 nautical miles to the south.
Fishermen continuously call on international and human rights organizations to pressure the occupation to cease its violations against them.
They seek support and stability in their profession, particularly given the deteriorating economic conditions affecting the residents of Gaza.
Since the beginning of the year until the end of June, fifteen fishermen have been arrested by Israeli forces, and five others have been injured in these attacks.
In addition to the arrests, the Israeli navy has seized fishing equipment in four separate incidents, causing significant financial losses to the already struggling Palestinian fishermen.
