The far-right-wing Israeli leader, from the Likud party, announced that he is planning to propose a bill to annex the Palestinian Jordan valley, comprising a third of the occupied West Bank.
This came despite multiple International condemnations of Israel’s policy of confiscation and settlements expansion.
Danny Danon, former Israeli ambassador to the UN, said that he wants to achieve a full application of Israeli law to annex all areas of Jordan Valley.
“I am optimistic that many MKs on both sides of the aisle will voice their support. There is no better time to apply sovereignty and we must join forces to do so imminently,” he confirmed.
He didn’t give further details on whether his proposal would be submitted to the Knesset or the parliament.
Israeli new government, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, has settlement expansion on the list of its main priorities as it seeks to take over as many Palestinian lands as possible.
About 600,000 Israeli settlers in over 230 illegal settlements built since 1967. Israeli occupation officially took over the Palestinian lands in the West Bank and Jerusalem in 1967.
According to UN resolutions, Israel’s settlement activity constitutes a “flagrant violation” of international law and has “no legal validity”
