DayofPal– Israeli occupation forces killed cameraman for Palestine TV, journalist Khaled Mohammed Al-Madhoun, while covering Israeli attacks on starved civilians and aid seekers near “Zikim” in the northern Gaza Strip.
The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip has announced that the number of journalists killed since the beginning of the genocide war last October has risen to 240, following the killing of Al-Madhoun.
In an official statement issued Saturday, the office strongly condemned what it described as the “systematic targeting” of media workers by the Israeli occupation army.
It held the Israeli occupation, along with the U.S. administration and European countries, including Britain, Germany, and France, responsible for the crimes of genocide and the assassination of journalists.
The statement called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists, and all institutions concerned with press freedom and human rights worldwide to condemn the ongoing assaults on Palestinian journalists and to take serious action to prosecute those responsible in international courts.
The Media Office pointed out that journalists in the Gaza Strip continue to work under extremely dangerous conditions, calling on the international community to urgently intervene to stop the killings and assassinations of media professionals, and to ensure the necessary protection for them in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Reporters Without Borders said that Palestine has become the world’s most dangerous state for journalists amid Israel’s war on Gaza, with dozens of reporters likely killed specifically due to their work.
“Trapped in the enclave, journalists in Gaza have no shelter and lack everything, including food and water,” said the Paris-based group, which is also known by its French acronym RSF.
According to it,Palestine ranked 163rd for press freedom in the latest index, a drop of six places from 2024, due to Israeli ongoing attacks.
