Four Palestinian police officers were killed on Saturday morning when Israeli occupation forces targeted their vehicle in the Saudi neighborhood of western Rafah, southern Gaza Strip.
The General Directorate of Police in Gaza reported that Israeli occupation warplanes targeted a foot patrol from the Tel Sultan neighborhood police station in western Rafah.
Among the officers was the station chief, Fares Abdel Aal. The airstrike occurred while they were performing their duty to serve citizens, secure homes, and protect public property. Abdel Aal and three other officers were martyred, while eight others sustained various injuries.
In a statement, the Police Directorate said that the continued and deliberate targeting of police officers by Israeli forces constitutes a blatant crime and a clear violation of international law, adding that “this persistent aggression underscores the occupation’s aim to spread chaos and eradicate any semblance of order in Gaza”.
”We urgently call on the international community to pressure the occupation to cease its attacks on the General Directorate of Police and its members. As a civilian agency, the police serve the public under all circumstances to help and organize the lives of the citizens,” the statement read.
As the Israeli assault on Gaza reaches its 274th day, the number of martyrs has risen to 38,098, with 87,705 wounded. The majority of the casualties are women and children.
Local, international, and UN organizations, along with officials, are warning of an imminent famine in Gaza if the blockade on crossings is not lifted. These crossings are the main lifeline for Palestinians, allowing the entry of humanitarian aid, food, medicine, and fuel necessary for the restoration of essential services such as clean water, healthcare, and efforts to combat malnutrition.
