DaysofPal- A devastating Israeli airstrike on Friday night killed 12 Palestinian civilians, including seven children and one woman, after it struck a residential area in the northern Gaza neighborhood of Jabalia an-Nazla. The attack was part of a series of airstrikes that have intensified the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The airstrike hit the home of the Khilla family in Jabalia, completely destroying the house and claiming the lives of all its occupants. According to the Palestinian Civil Defence, the victims were all members of the same family, with the seven children ranging in age from the youngest to six years old. In addition to the fatalities, 15 other people were injured in the attack.
Footage shared by the Palestinian Civil Defence on its Telegram channel showed the rescue efforts, with staff retrieving victims from under the rubble of the Khilla family home.
The airstrike in Jabalia was not an isolated incident. Earlier on Friday, an Israeli airstrike on an apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed eight civilians and injured at least 15 others, mostly children. In Beit Hanoon, an air raid resulted in the deaths of two girls and their parents. Additionally, the bodies of three brothers were retrieved from the rubble of a bombed home near Kamal Adwan Hospital.
Health authorities in Gaza reported that at least 56 people had been killed in Israeli attacks since the dawn of Friday, with 42 of those fatalities occurring in northern Gaza.
The ongoing conflict has exacerbated the dire living conditions in Gaza. UNRWA Senior Emergency Officer Louise Wateridge described Gaza as a “graveyard” due to the heavy winter rains, hunger, and ongoing hostilities. She emphasized that over two million people are trapped, with most living under fabric shelters that offer no protection from the elements. Wateridge noted that 69 percent of the buildings in the area have been damaged or destroyed, leaving no safe shelter for the population.
The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with international calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid being met with resistance from Israeli authorities.
