Israel Withdraws Decry of Unissued ICC Arrest Warrants

Netanyahu’s Fake Investigation to Evade ICC Arrest Warrant

The Israeli Foreign Ministry issued late Sunday Sep. 15th, 2024 a statement condemning the International Criminal Court (ICC) for purportedly issuing arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

This claim was made despite the ICC not having reached such a decision. The statement was swiftly removed after a brief appearance on the ministry’s website.

The statement, drafted in English, was briefly available on the ministry’s website and circulated on social media before being promptly withdrawn.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has been considering a request from Prosecutor Karim Khan over the past four months to issue international arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. However, an official decision has yet to be announced.

According to Haaretz, an Israeli Foreign Ministry official attributed the incident to “human error” while confirming that the ministry is bracing for the potential issuance of arrest warrants in the near future.

The official further noted that Israel remains uncertain about the timing or certainty of any such announcement from the court.

Recently, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan renewed his request for an expedited ruling on the arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Khan underscored the court’s authority to prosecute Israeli nationals for crimes committed in Palestinian territories.

In his submission to the court on Friday, he urged the judges to render their decision promptly, asserting that any undue delay undermines the rights of the victims.

Khan’s plea further contended that the ICC possesses legal jurisdiction over Israelis accused of committing atrocities in Palestinian territories, dismissing objections related to the Oslo Accords and Israel’s assertions of conducting its own investigations into alleged war crimes.
