DaysofPal – Israeli occupation forces escalated their attacks across several areas of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning, carrying out artillery shelling, airstrikes, and large-scale demolitions of residential homes in a new violation of the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since October 10.
A local source reported that Israeli artillery targeted the southeastern areas of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, coinciding with heavy gunfire from Israeli military vehicles and continuous flights of warplanes over the area.
The source added that Israeli aircraft carried out an airstrike on eastern Khan Younis, while western areas of Rafah were subjected to repeated artillery shelling.
In central Gaza, Israeli artillery shelled the eastern parts of the Al-Bureij refugee camp. Meanwhile, Gaza City witnessed demolition operations carried out by Israeli forces, targeting residential homes in the city’s southeastern neighborhoods.
On Monday, The New York Times reported that Israel has destroyed more than 2,500 buildings in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire agreement came into force more than two months ago.
The newspaper noted that dozens of these buildings are located beyond the so-called “yellow line,” an area where Palestinians are supposed to have relatively freer movement under the ceasefire terms.
The ongoing demolition operations come after a devastating two-year Israeli war on Gaza that left much of the region in ruins, according to the report, which is based on an analysis of satellite imagery from Planet Labs. This has occurred despite the ceasefire giving Gaza’s residents temporary hope for calm and a measure of stability.
The report added that Israel justifies these demolitions by claiming they aim to destroy tunnels and booby-trapped homes. However, nighttime footage captured on October 30, during the ceasefire period, appears to show a large-scale explosion in part of the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, an area under Israeli military control.
These attacks come amid ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement that ended the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023. The war has resulted in the killing of more than 71,000 Palestinians and the injury of over 171,000 others, most of them women and children.
