Prisoners’ Media Office stated Monday, October 2nd, 2023, that the Israeli prison administration strings out its policy of procrastination and non-responsiveness to the demands of Palestinian prisoners particularly regarding repairs to their rooms and tents, especially in the Negev Prison.
The Israeli Prison Administration decided to punish Palestinian detainees as part of a broader systematic attack by the current far-right Israeli government and extremist minster Itamar Ben Gvir, who recently ordered to limit prisoners’ family visits.
The office’s director, Ahmed al-Qidra, said in a statement that as winter approaches, the prison administration not only refuses to respond to the prisoners’ demands but has exacerbated their suffering by prohibiting the entry of clothing for six consecutive months, in an act that goes against human decency.
“The aforementioned actions are considered a crime against humanity, and require effective official action on the international stage to force the Israeli occupation to provide the basic needs of the prisoners, he added.
The Wa’ed Association for Prisoners warned earlier that the Israeli occupation’s escalating attacks against the Palestinian prisoners may inflame the situation and lead to revolutionary and rebellious actions.
Al-Qidra called on human rights organizations, the Red Cross, and the United Nations to take urgent actions to stop procrastination policy which Israeli occupation utilizes as a means of revenge against the prisoners, aggravating their living during the winter season.
Currently, Israeli occupation detains approximately 5,000 Palestinians behind prison bars, including 225 children and 45 women.
