DayofPal– In the occupied West Bank, even bending down to tie a shoelace could be a death sentence. An Israeli military veterans’ group, Breaking the Silence, has revealed chilling testimony from a former Israeli army captain.
The Israeli group published the transcript of a conversation with an anonymous captain in the Israeli military who said Israeli forces are now Gazafying shoot-to-kill protocols in the occupied West Bank, turning even the smallest gestures into perceived threats of attack.
According to the anonymous officer, soldiers have been given the green light to open fire on anyone suspected of “messing with the ground”—a vague and deadly phrase originally coined in Gaza to target those believed to be planting explosives.
The captain said, the term was regularly used to justify shooting Palestinians who might be otherwise going about their business.
“Think of yourself as a civilian: You mess with the ground to tie your shoelaces, pick something up, throw away garbage; you might be looking for something; you might be picking a flower,” the captain said.
“[But in Gaza], messing with the ground is a code name for planting an explosive device, always.”
During 15 months of genocide, Israel has killed over 48,000 Palestinians in Gaza in Cold blood. Many were fell victim while going out for their daily needs.
