DayofPal- The Israeli army has claimed in a statement that it has killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in its massive air strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs on Friday.
The army said it also killed several other leaders, including Ali Karaki, the commander of the southern front of the group, in overnight strikes.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israel dropped 83 bombs, each weighing one ton, on the Dahiyeh neighborhood to assassinate Nasrallah.
According to the Israeli army statement, air force planes with precise intelligence guidance from the security establishment targeted Hezbollah’s central headquarters, located underground, in that densely populated area of Dahiyeh.
There has been no comment from Hezbollah at this time.
On Friday, Israel launched a series of attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut, marking the most intense bombardment since the start of its offensive on Lebanon earlier this month.
Reports indicated over a dozen explosions in the Dahiyeh neighborhood, which had already faced airstrikes in the preceding days.
Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV reported that the assaults resulted in the destruction of at least seven buildings in the Haret Hreik suburb, reducing them to rubble.
The station noted that more than 15 missiles struck the area, and civil defense teams were engaged in extinguishing multiple fires and have urged the public to donate blood, anticipating a significant number of casualties.
Meanwhile, Israel’s military said a possible ground invasion of Lebanon will take place in the near future, as the army has mobilized three reserve battalions to boost its Central Command.
