On Sunday, Irish Teachta Dála John Brady called on the Irish Government to cut its ties with companies based in the illegal Israeli settlements.

Brady argued that any violations of international law should have repercussions, and proposed that Ireland should sell its shares in businesses which are known to be running within the illegal Israeli settlements.

Brady implored the Irish Government to back his Illegal Israeli Settlement Divestment Bill, which obliges the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) to divest from any and all present investments and forbid any future investments in companies functioning in illegitimate Israeli settlements.

He went on to say that it is contradictory for the Irish government to decry the unlawful acts of Israel while also holding shares in Israeli banks and corporations that have been identified by the UNHRC as engaging in violations of international law in areas under the Israeli occupation.

The Irish politician proclaimed that the taxpayers of Ireland are part owners of nine companies based in the illegally occupied Palestinian territories.
