DaysofPal- The 20-year-old Palestinian young man Bara’ Khairy Ali Maali, died after being shot during an Israeli military raid on the town of Deir Jarir, northeast of Ramallah, on Sunday evening, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
Fathi Hamdan, head of the Deir Jarir town council, said Maali was fatally wounded as Israeli troops and armed settlers launched an assault on the area.
Earlier, settlers had attacked homes on the outskirts of the town, with Israeli soldiers entering the area to shield the attackers.
When residents attempted to push back the assault, both soldiers and settlers opened live fire, striking Maali in the chest. He was rushed to an emergency clinic in Silwad and later transferred to the Palestine Medical Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In a separate incident, a Palestinian man was shot in the thigh by Israeli forces in the town of al-Ram, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, after crossing the separation wall. The Red Crescent said he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Israeli troops also carried out an evening incursion into al-Khader, south of Bethlehem, spreading throughout residential areas and forcing businesses to shut down.
Meanwhile, settlers attacked Palestinian vehicles northwest of Beitunia, west of Ramallah, pelting cars with stones and damaging at least one vehicle. Another group of settlers uprooted young olive trees near Asira al-Qibliya, south of Nablus, earlier in the day.
These incidents come against the backdrop of a sharp escalation in Israeli military and settler violence throughout the West Bank, coinciding with Israel’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, where more than 69,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.
Human rights organizations have long warned that Palestinians in the West Bank are facing an increased threat of ethnic cleansing amid the surge in violence.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared the Israeli decades-long occupation of Palestinian territories illegal, calling for the dismantling of all Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Although nonbinding, the ruling carries significant political weight, marking the first time the ICJ has issued a formal opinion on the legality of Israeli occupation.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also condemned the growing wave of settler attacks, describing them as acts of terrorism and demanding accountability.
