Days of Palestine – Jerusalem
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) demolished on Wednesday this morning a Palestinian-owned building that was still in the construction stage in Shufat refugee camp, northeast of occupied East Jerusalem, according to local sources.
They said IOF took over rooftops and secured the area where the building is located before a bulldozer proceeded to tear it down under the pretext the owner did not have a building permit.
Palestinians in East Jerusalem build without a permit because getting one from the Israeli occupiers is an almost impossible task.
The Israeli authorities demolished, confiscated, or forced owners to demolish 29 Palestinian-owned homes and other structures in Area C and East Jerusalem, citing the lack of Israeli-issued building permits.
As a result, 23 people were displaced, including eleven children, and the livelihoods of about 300 others were affected.
