Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Sheikh Naim Kassem, said, in an interview with The Associated Press, that “If there is a cease-fire in Gaza, we will stop without any discussion.”
He clarified that Hezbollah is only involved as a “support front” following Israel’s war on Gaza, adding, “If the war stops, this military support will no longer exist.”
Without a permanent and formal ceasefire in Gaza, Hezbollah will not commit to anything, said Kassem.
“If what happens in Gaza is a mix between ceasefire and no ceasefire, war and no war, we can’t answer [how we would react] now, because we don’t know its shape, its results, its impacts,” added Kassem.
Kassem remarks came after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said “We’ve heard the Israelis talk about a significant downshift in their operations in Gaza. It remains to be seen,” during an event hosted by the Brookings Institute think tank in Washington DC, denying Israel’s statements that it was shifting to a lower intensity phase.
According to the Palestinian health ministry, the death toll in Gaza has risen to at least 37,843, with 86,858 injured.
A report by the German tabloid Bild said today that an Israeli ground operation in Lebanon will begin on the third or fourth week of July.
The proclamation came as Netanyahu claimed that his forces is close to eliminate Hamas military and that Gaza war is approaching to its end.
However, the Israeli Defense Minister is urgently calling for the recruitment of 10,000 soldiers ahead of a potential war in Lebanon as hundreds of Israeli soldiers were killed or wounded in Gaza.
