On Thursday Sept.5th, 2023, Hamas released a video for Israeli-American soldier Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was held captive in the Gaza Strip for the duration of Israel’s war on the enclave,
Goldberg-Polin’s body was recovered dead along with other five captives on September 1st from a tunnel in southern Gaza.
At that time, senior Hamas official Izzat Al-Risheq said that the six prisoners were killed in Israeli air strikes.
However, the Israeli military accused Hamas of being behind their death, saying the six were shot dead by Hamas fighters a day before their retrieval.
In the video marking some of his final words, Goldberg-Polin said Israel “has been trying to bomb me nonstop”.
“I am asking you, Mr President Joe Biden and Antony Blinken and all my fellow Americans, citizens – to do everything you can stop the war, stop this madness, and to bring me home now,” he added.
Just a day earlier, Al-Qassam Brigades also released a video depicting the bodies of two deceased Israeli prisoners, Alexander Lobanov and Carmel Gat.
This release follows a previous video issued on Tuesday, which featured Ori Danino, whose remains, along with those of five other prisoners, were recovered by the Israeli military on Saturday in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.
On Monday, Al-Qassam released a message from captive Edan Yerushalmi, who pleaded with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to take all necessary measures to secure her release through a prisoner exchange deal.
Meanwhile, Hamas releasing of videos of Israeli deceased have pressed on the internal front of Israel, as hundreds of thousands of Israelis have taken to the streets in recent days, calling for a prisoners-release deal and saying time is running out to bring home the captives alive.
