DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement has expressed its condolences to the Catholic Church and Christians around the world following the death of Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88 after a decade-long papacy marked by his commitment to peace, justice, and interfaith dialogue.
In a statement issued on Monday, Hamas lauded the late pontiff as a prominent moral voice who stood against what they described as genocide and war crimes targeting Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“Pope Francis was one of the most prominent religious figures to reject aggression and racism, advocating tirelessly for understanding, peace, and humanity,” Hamas said in their tribute.
Hamas highlighted the Pope’s vocal opposition to violence and oppression, particularly his condemnation of atrocities committed against Palestinians during Israel’s military campaigns in Gaza.
During his papacy, Pope Francis repeatedly called for an end to conflicts worldwide, urging global solidarity with marginalized communities and victims of injustice. His strong stance on Palestinian suffering earned him recognition from many advocates for human rights, including Hamas, which praised him for championing “the causes of justice, freedom, and the rights of oppressed peoples.”
Moreover, Hamas emphasized the importance of continuing collaborative efforts among faith leaders and conscientious individuals to combat colonialism, hatred, and inequality. They described the late Pope’s legacy as a beacon of hope for fostering coexistence and mutual respect across cultures and religions.
The Vatican confirmed Pope Francis’ passing earlier today, attributing his death to complications from prolonged illness.
He died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at his residence in Casa Santa Marta within Vatican City. Tributes have poured in globally, celebrating his unwavering dedication to humanitarian values and advocacy for the downtrodden.
As the world mourns the loss of this influential figure, his words and actions continue to resonate deeply, especially among those enduring protracted struggles for dignity and self-determination. For Palestinians and others facing systemic injustices, Pope Francis is remembered not only as a spiritual leader but also as a steadfast ally in the pursuit of peace and human rights.
