DaysofPal- The senior Hamas official Bassem Naim stated that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is deliberately sabotaging efforts to halt the Israeli genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, despite the ceasefire plan gaining international backing through a United Nations Security Council resolution.
Naim said on Friday that Netanyahu is intentionally obstructing the implementation of the ceasefire framework, which was adopted by the Security Council under Resolution 2803 after being proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Naim said the plan has effectively become an internationally binding agreement, but its execution remains stalled due to Netanyahu’s refusal to honor the Israeli commitments.
He noted that the Israeli prime minister escalated military actions to derail the agreement and resume the war, arguing that Netanyahu is seeking to preserve his political future and that of his governing coalition.
According to Naim, Netanyahu’s violations are aimed at “saving himself and his alliance from a bleak political fate,” following the Israeli failure on October 7 and its inability to achieve any of its declared objectives since then.
He added that Israeli forces had carried out at least 13 killings across various areas of Gaza in recent hours alone, in addition to hundreds of Palestinians who have been killed or wounded since the ceasefire took effect.
Naim said such actions could not occur without an American political cover or a “green light” from Washington.
In contrast, Naim stressed that the Palestinian resistance has fully complied with the terms of the agreement, citing confirmations from mediators and U.S. officials.
He said Hamas remains ready to engage positively in the second phase of the plan, including the formation of a Palestinian body to administer Gaza, Hamas’s complete withdrawal from any governmental role, and the opening of border crossings in both directions.
Naim warned that continued Israeli escalation and the persistence of Gaza’s dire humanitarian conditions place responsibility on the mediators and the United States as guarantors of the agreement.
He said the current situation is unsustainable and will not bring security or stability to the region, cautioning that the conflict could expand further, an outcome he claimed Netanyahu is seeking.
His remarks came as Gaza experienced another deadly night on Thursday, during which at least 14 Palestinians, including five children, were killed in separate areas of the enclave. The deaths were attributed to the Israeli violations of the ceasefire, including airstrikes, artillery shelling, and gunfire from military vehicles.
