DaysofPal – The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said that the 38th anniversary of its founding comes at a time when more than two years have passed since a “brutal aggression, a war of extermination, starvation, and unprecedented destruction” targeting more than two million Palestinians besieged in the Gaza Strip.
The movement added that these actions have been accompanied by systematic crimes in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, alongside plans to annex land, expand settlements, and Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hamas said that the Palestinian people have confronted this aggression “united with their valiant resistance,” demonstrating firm will and what it described as legendary steadfastness. The movement paid tribute to the resilience of Palestinians in all arenas, particularly in Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem, and the territories occupied in 1948, as well as refugee camps and the diaspora. It also wished a speedy recovery for the wounded and freedom for prisoners and detainees held in Israeli jails.
Hamas expressed condolences for the souls of the martyrs and founding leaders, foremost among them Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. It also commemorated the leaders it described as martyrs of the “Al-Aqsa Flood,” including Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, Saleh al-Arouri, and Mohammed Deif, in addition to the martyrs of the movement, the Palestinian people, and the wider Arab and Islamic nation.
The movement stated that “Al-Aqsa Flood” marked a defining moment in the struggle for freedom and independence and would remain a lasting milestone signaling what it called a true beginning for driving out the occupation and ending its presence.
Hamas said that, despite two years of war, Israel has failed to achieve its objectives and has succeeded only in targeting civilians and all aspects of human life, with direct support from the United States.
Hamas reaffirmed its full commitment to the ceasefire agreement, accusing Israel of violating it daily and evading its obligations. It called on mediators and the U.S. administration to exert pressure on the Israeli government to implement the terms of the agreement, halt attacks, open border crossings, particularly the Rafah crossing, and increase the flow of humanitarian aid.
The movement also reiterated its categorical rejection of any form of guardianship or mandate over the Gaza Strip or any part of Palestinian territory, warning against attempts at forced displacement and the reengineering of Gaza in line with Israeli plans.
It stressed that the Palestinian people alone have the right to decide who governs them and that they possess the legitimate right to resist, liberate their land, and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Hamas called on Arab and Islamic countries, governments, peoples, and organizations to take urgent action to pressure Israel to stop its offensive, open the crossings, and implement relief, shelter, and reconstruction plans.
It held Israel fully responsible for crimes of genocide and starvation, characterizing them as “systematic and well-documented” crimes that will not lapse with time. The movement urged the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to continue pursuing Israeli leaders.
The statement emphasized Hamas’s adherence to its principles since its founding and its loyalty to the blood of the martyrs and the sacrifices of prisoners, reaffirming its commitment to liberation and return. It stressed that Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque will remain at the heart of the conflict and that there is no legitimacy or sovereignty for the occupation over them.
Regarding Palestinian prisoners, Hamas said that the crimes committed by the Israeli government against detainees constitute a sadistic approach and a systematic policy of retaliation. It affirmed that the prisoners’ issue will remain at the top of its priorities and condemned what it described as international silence over their suffering.
Hamas further asserted that the Palestinian people’s right to resistance in all its forms is a legitimate right guaranteed by international law. It called for the achievement of national unity and the building of Palestinian consensus around a unified strategy of struggle to confront what it described as plans to liquidate the Palestinian cause.
The movement concluded by stating that the war has exposed a “rogue entity” that poses a threat to regional security and international peace, necessitating international action to isolate it, halt its actions, and end the occupation.
At the same time, Hamas praised the support of resistance forces and free people around the world, as well as the global popular mobilization in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, calling for its escalation until the occupation ends and freedom and independence are achieved.
