DaysofPal — Hazem Qassem, spokesperson for Hamas, said Monday that the Gaza Strip continues to face a “dangerous Israeli escalation,” as Israeli occupation is disregarding ceasefire understandings brokered by international and regional mediators.
In a statement, Qassem said that despite agreements intended to halt hostilities, ensure calm, and protect civilians, Israeli forces have continued airstrikes and attacks, resulting in further casualties and worsening humanitarian conditions.
He asserted that Israeli occupation has shown “no real commitment” to the agreements, adding that ongoing military crimes have led to more deaths and injuries, even as Palestinian factions, according to his remarks, have adhered to a ceasefire.
Qassem said the developments reflect Israeli disregard for international mediation efforts aimed at stopping the violence.
He accused the Israeli occupation of pursuing a policy of “collective punishment” and systematic destruction targeting civilians, in violation of international humanitarian law.
He also highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, describing conditions as catastrophic amid continued border closures, restrictions on the movement of patients and wounded individuals, and limitations on the entry of medical supplies and humanitarian aid.
According to Qassem, widespread destruction of infrastructure, homes, and essential facilities has further compounded the crisis, while reconstruction efforts remain stalled.
The Hamas spokesperson placed full responsibility on Israeli occupation for the ongoing Israeli violations and called on mediating countries, the international community, and the United Nations to take urgent action.
He urged efforts to halt the military campaign, ensure adherence to agreements, reopen crossings, facilitate the delivery of aid and medical supplies, and guarantee the protection of civilians.
Qassem warned that continued international inaction would lead to further escalation and deepen the humanitarian crisis, describing silence over the situation as a “stain” on those failing to act.
