DaysofPal- Hamas Movement declared on Friday that Israeli occupation holds no legitimacy or sovereignty over Palestinian land, as Palestinian people worldwide commemorated the 78th anniversary of the Nakba with rejecting the Israeli occupation.
In an official statement, Hamas emphasized that regardless of the passage of time and the scale of sacrifices, Israeli control over Palestine remains illegitimate.
The group called on the international community to criminalize Israeli actions, halt the ongoing Israeli aggression, and support the Palestinian people in achieving their rights, including the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The statement comes as Palestinians mark the events of May 15, 1948, when more than 750,000 Palestinians were displaced from their towns and villages during the creation of the State of Israel.
Hamas described the Nakba as a “catastrophic and unprecedented crime in modern history,” accusing the Israeli occupation of committing massacres and systematic violations against Palestinian land, people, and holy sites over the past 78 years.
The group further alleged that recent developments, particularly in Gaza, amount to continued large-scale violence with lasting humanitarian consequences.
The movement also pointed to ongoing tensions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, citing settlement expansion, forced displacement policies, and repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque as part of the escalating measures by Israeli occupation.
Hamas reiterated that resistance in all forms is a legitimate right under international laws and conventions for peoples living under occupation. It stressed that disarmament cannot be discussed while Israeli military crimes persist, warning that such calls align with efforts to reinforce existing power dynamics.
The group further argued that the root cause of instability in the region remains the Israeli presence on Palestinian land, adding that continued international silence or perceived double standards contribute to prolonging the conflict.
In its appeal, Hamas urged the United Nations and international human rights organizations to intervene, particularly to address policies affecting Palestinian prisoners and to push for their release. It also called on Palestinians everywhere to maintain resilience and continue advocating for their national rights and identity.
Additionally, the movement appealed to Arab and Muslim countries, as well as global civil society, to strengthen political and humanitarian support for Palestinians, especially those in Gaza facing ongoing hardship.
The statement concluded by stressing the importance of sustained solidarity efforts and reaffirmed Hamas’s position that achieving Palestinian self-determination, including the right of return, remains central to resolving the conflict.
Nakba Day is observed annually on May 15, commemorating the mass displacement of Palestinians in 1948, an event that continues to shape the political and humanitarian landscape of the region today.
