Days of Palestine – Gaza
Hamas spokesman Jihad Taha said that passing the occupation’s Knesset and renewing the so-called “citizenship law,” according to which Palestinian family unification is refused, is a continuous racist crime against humanity.
Taha added in a press statement on Friday that the law aims to empty the land of its people, especially the city of Jerusalem, by refusing to include the children of many Jerusalem families in the civil registry, or by not allowing those families to remain within it.
Taha stressed that Hamas rejects this racist law that violates international norms and covenants, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights issued in 1948.
He called on the United Nations and all concerned organizations to stand against this racist law and to assume their responsibilities in criminalizing and holding this entity that usurped the rights of our people accountable.
Israeli occupation Knesset after more than 200 hours of deliberations, approved on Thursday night the “Citizenship and Entry into Israel Law (Temporary Order),” 2022, by a 45-15 majority vote on 10 March 2021 which affirms that its purpose is to ensure a Jewish demographic majority.
Adalah Rights Organization said in a statement that “The Citizenship and Entry into Israel” Law is one of the most racist and discriminatory laws in the world, and must immediately be repealed.”
Adalah stated that this racist Law bans the unification of Palestinian families, as it prohibits the interior Minister from granting residency or citizenship status to Palestinians from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip who are married to Palestinian citizens of Israel.
It also bans unification between a citizen or resident of Israel with spouses from “enemy states”, including Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran, human rights organization added.
Adalah stressed that no other state bans its citizens from exercising their basic right to family life, based solely on their national or ethnic identity.
For 18 years, the Knesset has repeatedly renewed the ban, and the state has defended the legality of the measure before the Israeli Supreme Court using unsubstantiated and baseless security arguments.
