DaysPal- The Hamas Movement called for sending international and United Nations observers to hospitals in the Gaza Strip to debunk the Israeli lies about using hospitals and health facilities for military purposes.
This came after the recent Israeli attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital, where the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed the hospital and arrested patients, the injured, and medical staff inside, then completely burnt the hospital, rendering it out of service.
Hamas stated in a statement on Sunday that the ongoing Israeli occupation army’s targeting and systematic destruction of medical facilities and hospitals, the latest being Kamal Adwan Hospital, places the United Nations and the international community in historical responsibility for their failure to stop the ongoing Israeli genocide against civilians in the Gaza Strip for more than 14 months.
Hamas also called on the United Nations and all relevant international institutions to urgently intervene, by their obligations under international humanitarian law, to protect what remains of hospitals and medical facilities in the north and to supply them with medical materials.
The IOF claimed that this hospital is considered a center for Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli occupation army had targeted Kamal Adwan Hospital several times, killing many doctors and patients during the continuous shelling of the hospital and its repeated incursions throughout the war, the latest being last Friday when more than 350 people inside were detained, including 180 medical personnel and 75 injured and sick individuals along with their companions, and took them to an unknown location.
The government media office in Gaza later stated that the occupation forces had detained about 400 people, including medical personnel, during their incursion into the hospital while keeping the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, in custody without disclosing any information about him.
The released individuals testified about the abuse and beatings with the butts of rifles they experienced inside the hospital, and being kept for long hours on the ground in the cold.
For its part, the World Health Organization (WHO) emphasized in a statement on Saturday that the systematic destruction of the healthcare system and the ongoing blockade of Gaza for more than 80 days endangers the lives of the remaining 75,000 Palestinians in the area.
It stated that it had confirmed at least 50 attacks on Kamal Adwan Hospital or near it since the beginning of October 2024. With U.S. support, the Israeli occupation army has been launching a campaign of genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in more than 153,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded—the majority of whom are children and women—and over 11,000 missing, amidst immense destruction and famine that has killed dozens of children and the elderly.
