DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement has condemned an Israeli airstrike that killed 11 members of the Abu Shaaban family in Gaza City on Saturday evening, including 7 children and 2 women, calling it a deliberate massacre that reveals the Israeli “premeditated intent to target defenseless civilians without any justification.”
According to Gaza’s Civil Defense, the Israeli military targeted a civilian car carrying members of the Abu Shaaban family in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, east of Gaza City.
The attack killed seven children, two women, and two men, as the family was reportedly attempting to check on their home following a period of relative calm after the ceasefire.
Rescue workers described a horrific scene, saying the vehicle was completely destroyed and the victims were burned beyond recognition.
“It was a devastating strike. We could hardly identify the bodies,” one Civil Defense responder said.
In a statement, Hamas said the attack represented “a continuation of the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people” and a “clear violation of the recently reached ceasefire agreement.”
“This massacre comes in the context of the occupation’s ongoing violations of the recently reached ceasefire agreement,” the statement read.
“This horrific crime adds to the long Israeli record of massacres and violations and confirms that the blood of our children and women remains a direct target for the Zionist killing machine, which brutally violates human values and international laws.” It added.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on the strike. The Israeli occupation has previously claimed that its operations in Gaza target militant groups and infrastructure, but repeated attacks on homes, schools, and civilian convoys have drawn widespread condemnation.
Saturday’s attack comes as thousands of Palestinians have begun returning to their neighborhoods in northern and eastern Gaza to assess the damage after months of Israeli bombardment.
Many have found their homes reduced to rubble, with basic services such as water, electricity, and sanitation still unavailable.
Local officials warned that continued Israeli attacks could jeopardize the fragile ceasefire, which has allowed limited humanitarian aid and medical relief into the war-torn enclave.
The Abu Shaaban family massacre has sparked an outpouring of grief across Gaza, with residents denouncing the Israeli systematic targeting of civilians. Human rights organizations also renewed calls for an independent international investigation into alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza.
As Gaza continues to reel from nearly a year of conflict, humanitarian agencies warn that the population remains trapped between devastation, displacement, and the constant threat of renewed violence.
