Germany Faces Criticism for Racial Suppression of Palestinian Refugees
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The “Samedun Network for the Defense of Palestinian Prisoners” has declared that German authorities continue their alleged racist campaign of suppressing and pursuing Palestinian and Arab refugees, all while prohibiting marches and public events in support of the Palestinian cause.

The network, in a statement, announced the launch of a European and international campaign on Saturday, September 16th, to oppose suppression and racism in Germany.

This campaign is supported and participated in by approximately 150 organizations, parties, and associations from around the world.

Zaid Abdulnasser, the coordinator of the German chapter of the Samidoun Network and a member of the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, is presently facing the threat of having his residency status revoked by the German government.

This threat stems from his political involvement with both Samidoun and Masar Badil, as reported by the network.

Absolute Commitment to Defending Palestine

“We, in Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, declare that all attacks against us by the zionist occupation, its organizations abroad, and by Western imperialist countries and right-wing, racist media, have not and will not change our absolute commitment to defending and supporting the Palestinian prisoners movement, and to struggle for the liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea,” the network’s statement read.

In response to this looming threat, the network stated that over 130 international organizations, labor unions, and political parties have vehemently denounced Germany’s escalating repressive actions against Palestinian refugees.

The undersigned organizations unequivocally express their disapproval and indignation regarding the consistent repression of Palestinians and pro-Palestine groups in Germany by the German government.

Ongoing Repression

This repression encompasses a range of actions, including the prohibition of Nakba Day demonstrations in both 2022 and 2023, as well as the ban on International Palestinian Prisoners Day demonstrations in 2023.

Furthermore, they strongly condemn the targeting of journalists, young activists, and students due to their pro-Palestinian perspectives and activism. Of particular concern is the recent attempt to revoke the residency status of Zaid Abdulnasser, the coordinator of Samidoun Germany, who is a Palestinian refugee born in Syria.

In a joint statement, these organizations emphasize, “This aggression is aimed at all Palestinian refugees in an attempt to strip them of their right to struggle for their liberation by maneuvering around the legal system and exploiting their precarious situation to pressure them into silence.”
