DaysofPal- More than 600,000 children in Gaza are at risk of permanent paralysis and long-term disabilities due to the ongoing Israeli blockade, which has halted the entry of essential polio vaccines, Gaza’s Health Ministry warned.
The suspension of Phase 4 of the national polio immunization campaign, the ministry said, has left over half a million children unprotected against the disease. Officials described the health implications as potentially catastrophic.
“Children in Gaza are facing severe health risks not only due to the vaccine shortage but also from the growing lack of clean water and adequate nutrition,” the ministry noted.
Since early March, Israel’s closure of border crossings has blocked nearly all medical and humanitarian aid from entering the besieged enclave. The United Nations has repeatedly warned that the blockade is accelerating a total humanitarian collapse.
