DayofPal– The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society and the Palestinian Authority’s Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported that their legal teams were able to visit 15 detainees from the Gaza Strip incarcerated in Israel’s Ofer Prison.
Palestinian prisoners released from Gaza reveal harrowing testimonies about various forms of torture they endured in Israeli prisons, including brutal abuse and sexual assault.
Last Friday, the Israeli occupation released 20 prisoners from Gaza, who had been arrested during the Israeli military ground incursions into the Strip, and today it released other six.
The prisoners are held under harsh detention conditions. In their testimonies, the detainees confirmed that they have been shackled for over 10 months, deprived of hygiene facilities, and are allowed to shower only once every 10 days for just 3 minutes. They have also lost their ability to keep track of time.
A detainee with amputated limps and bruises on his hands said the prison jailer forced other prisoners to carry him so near the cell’s small window, through which he was forced to get his hands out so that the jailer can punish him severely.
He further added that he was forced to lay on his abdomen when jailers were counting the prisoners, and was tortured severely when he was unable to get down from the so-called “bed”.
Another prisoner said the jailers aimed at destroying detainees’ mental health by keeping to say to them that “You are prisoners of war, no one cares about you, not even the Arabs ask about you. You are here to be killed and left.”
In investigation sessions, a detainee said he was forced to confess to crimes he did not commit in order to avoid the methods of torture, which have come to be known as the “graveyard of the living.”
A detainee from Jabalia told the lawyers who visited him that prisoner Moath Rayyan was tortured to death before his eyes, others were also raped in front of him.
He further said that the prison was filled with elderly, children and prominent doctors from Gaza. Sick elderly and minors are tortured through the cell’s small window, through which they have been violently abused which leads to breaking their shackled arms.
Around 2,500 male and female prisoners are still being incarcerated in Israeli prisons since the beginning of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, distributed in the prisons of Sade Teiman, Antot, Ofer Military, and Negev.
