DaysofPal- The Gaza Municipality sounded the alarm on Wednesday, describing the situation in the Strip as catastrophic as powerful winter storms batter the region and tens of thousands of displaced families struggle to survive in makeshift shelters.
Husni Mehanna, spokesperson for the municipality, said the incoming low-pressure systems pose a significant threat to both displaced people and local residents, given the extensive destruction of infrastructure caused by Israeli ongoing genocidal war on the Strip.
In press statements, Mehanna disclosed that over 85% of the municipality’s equipment has been destroyed, severely limiting its ability to assist residents as heavy rains flood camps and neighborhoods.
The situation is catastrophic due to the storms and the severe shortage of essential materials, he said.
Mehanna urged the international community to pressure the Israeli occupation to allow the entry of urgently needed supplies, warning that without immediate intervention, the humanitarian situation will continue to deteriorate.
The storm has already flooded thousands of tents across Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians have been living in extremely harsh conditions for more than a year.
With drainage systems in ruins and shelter options scarce, many areas have become uninhabitable.
Humanitarian agencies estimate that Gaza requires around 300,000 tents and prefabricated housing units to meet the basic shelter needs of families who lost their homes in two years of relentless destruction.
As the polar storm deepens, authorities and aid groups fear further devastation and renewed suffering for a population already pushed to the brink by war, displacement, and the collapse of essential services.
