DaysofPal- In a tragic escalation of violence in Gaza, over 50 civilians were killed within the past 24 hours as Israeli aerial and artillery strikes targeted four schools sheltering displaced families, according to Gaza’s civil defense service.
The attacks have devastated communities across the coastal enclave, with local authorities reporting heavy casualties, including women and children.
A civil defense spokesman said on Sunday in a televised statement that the Israeli occupation army was deliberately targeting schools and increasing the number of displaced civilians.
“The Israeli occupation army persists in bombing one school after another and killing more displaced people across the Gaza Strip,” he said.
The spokesperson urged human rights organizations to look into the type of weapons used in the attacks and emphasized the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
“We need human rights organizations to monitor the dangerous weapons used against us. There are mutilations clearly seen in the bodies of the martyrs because of the ammunition used,” he said.
He added that the lack of proper medical care and rescue supplies in Gaza had resulted in the deaths of thousands of injured civilians. “Many others would die due to the absence of proper medical care in Gaza,” he added.

Earlier, the civil defense service reported that approximately 40 people were killed in a single strike on a school sheltering displaced families in Beit Hanoun, located in the far north of the Gaza Strip.
International organizations are alarmed by the scope of the humanitarian crisis. Rosalia Bollen, a communications specialist for UNICEF, called the situation “absolutely appalling,” highlighting the terrible toll on children.
“Children continue to be killed every day in Gaza. While attacks are concentrated on the north, families are killed here in the centre and southern parts of Gaza as well,” Bollen told Al Jazeera from Deir el-Balah. She added, “At least 14,500 children have been reported killed, with tens of thousands more injured. At least a quarter of those are thought to require major rehabilitation, risking lifelong disability.”
