DaysofPal- Search and rescue teams in Gaza have recovered the bodies of at least 35 Palestinians killed during Israeli military operations, following the army’s withdrawal from most urban areas on Friday morning. The majority of the remains were found in Gaza City, the epicenter of recent Israeli air raids.
Residents returning to the devastated neighborhoods described entire blocks reduced to rubble. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defense, reported “massive destruction” across the Strip and warned civilians of the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance and booby-trapped homes left behind by retreating Israeli forces.
“Homes once occupied by troops may still contain explosives,” Basal stated, urging the public to exercise extreme caution.
Gazan authorities announced the start of a “recovery phase” and said security forces will be deployed throughout the Strip to assist in restoring order and aiding returning residents.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s health ministry reported that 17 Palestinians were killed on Thursday, despite news of an impending ceasefire. This brings the death toll in Gaza to 67,211 since October 7, 2023, including over 20,000 children. According to leaked Israeli military data, more than 80% of those killed were civilians.
Additionally, around 10,000 people remain missing, feared buried beneath the rubble.
