DaysofPal– The Hamas Movement has declared the ceasefire agreement with Israel a triumph for the “steadfastness” of the Palestinian people and the Movement’s “resistance.”
“The ceasefire agreement is a result of the legendary steadfastness of our great Palestinian people and our valiant resistance in the Gaza Strip for over 15 months,” Hamas stated. The agreement, it added, paves “the way towards the realization of our people’s aspirations for liberation and return.”
Hamas expressed gratitude to mediators who facilitated the agreement, announced on Wednesday. It lauded the deal as a significant milestone for Palestinians and freedom-seeking people worldwide, describing it as a turning point in the ongoing conflict with Israel and a crucial step towards achieving the long-held goals of liberation and return.
The Movement emphasized that the ceasefire fulfills its duty to protect Gaza’s resilient population, aiming to end Israeli aggression and stop the bloodshed, massacres, and large-scale devastation inflicted upon them.
On Wednesday, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, announced the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, marking the end of the 15-month war in Gaza. The agreement also includes a prisoner exchange.
The ceasefire is set to take effect on Sunday, January 19th, and will be implemented in three phases. The initial phase, lasting six weeks, involves the gradual Israeli withdrawal from central Gaza and the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes in northern Gaza.
During this phase, Hamas will release 33 Israeli captives, including all female soldiers and civilians, children, and the elderly. Negotiations for the second phase will begin on the 16th day of the initial phase, focusing on the release of remaining captives and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, according to official sources cited by Reuters.
The third phase is expected to involve the repatriation of deceased individuals and the start of Gaza’s reconstruction efforts.
The announcement followed continuous deadly attacks across the Gaza Strip. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that at least 46,707 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war, with the death toll rising by 62 in the past day. The number of wounded has also reached at least 110,265.
