Five Palestinian youths were wounded by live and rubber bullets, and dozens more suffered from tear gas suffocation as Israeli occupation forces stormed the town of Al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank on Monday, July 31, 2023.
The forces targeted the town’s public park, which had been established by the local council in the eastern part of Al-Mughayyir.
Despite efforts to halt the demolition through negotiations with lawyers and human rights organizations, the Israeli authorities proceeded with the demolition without any further notice.
During the incident, heavily armed soldiers climbed the roofs of high-rise buildings, while nearby Israeli settlers monitored the situation from surrounding hills.
In addition to demolishing the park, the Israeli forces also destroyed retaining walls in cultivated lands located in the eastern area of Al-Mughayyir, which were maintained by agricultural associations and the Ministry of Agriculture.
As a result of the confrontation, clashes erupted between Palestinian youths and Israeli forces, with live and rubber bullets, and tear gas canisters fired.
Five individuals were injured, three from live ammunition and two struck by rubber bullets in the head. Several others suffered from tear gas suffocation.
One of the wounded is in critical condition, and arrangements are underway to transfer them to the Najah Hospital in Nablus for treatment.
The town of Al-Mughayyir has been under an ongoing siege, with the Israeli forces closing its eastern entrance and installing an iron gate following previous incidents about a month ago.
The occupied West Bank has experienced escalating tensions this year, marked by frequent Israeli military incursions into cities and towns, along with repeated attacks by settlers on Palestinian villages and towns.
