DaysofPal- A European citizens’ petition calling for the full suspension of the EU–Israel Association Agreement has surpassed three-quarters of a million signatures; in a development observers say reflects a growing shift in European public opinion on Israeli policies.
According to the latest published figures, 759,712 EU citizens had signed the initiative as of today, less than three months after its launch.
The total already exceeds 75% of the one million signatures required for the petition to be formally taken up by European institutions.
Under the European Citizens’ Initiative mechanism, reaching one million verified signatures from across EU member states obliges EU bodies to consider the petition’s demands and hold an official discussion on them within the institutional framework, including the Council of the European Union.
The signature drive remains open until 13 January 2027.
Organizers say the initiative calls for a complete suspension of the EU–Israel Association Agreement in light of Israel’s conduct in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The agreement is the main legal framework governing political and trade relations between the European Union and Israel.
Analysts argue that the rapid accumulation of signatures signals a marked change in European public sentiment, with the Palestinian narrative gaining visibility and resonance, while popular support for Israel’s positions appears to be waning.
They describe the trend as part of a broader pattern of growing grassroots pressure and increasing isolation of Israel at the level of European public opinion.
The petition comes amid intensifying calls within Europe to review and, in some cases, downgrade ties with Israel over ongoing developments in the Palestinian territories, including military operations, settlement expansion, and concerns over human rights and international law.
