The European Union has strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing military operation in the occupied West Bank, expressing “grave concern” over the escalating violence, widespread displacement, and the growing impact on civilians.
In a statement, the EU called on Israel to uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law, stressing the need to protect all civilians and allow displaced Palestinians to return home safely.
“At the same time, extremist settler violence continues throughout the West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” the statement noted. “The EU recalls that Israel, as the occupying power, has the duty to protect civilians and to hold perpetrators accountable.”
Beyond military operations, the EU criticized Israel’s continued expansion of illegal settlements, warning that such actions violate international law. It also demanded an immediate halt to demolitions, including those targeting EU-funded structures.
Movement restrictions were another point of concern, as the bloc condemned the tightening of checkpoints across the West Bank, which has severely disrupted daily life for Palestinians.
With the holy month of Ramadan approaching, the EU urged all parties to show restraint and allow for peaceful religious observances.
Israel’s attacks in the West Bank has now surpassed 40 days, leaving dozens dead, displacing approximately 40,000 Palestinians, and devastating civilian infrastructure.
The EU’s condemnation adds to mounting international pressure on Israel to end its offensive and address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the occupied territory.
