DayofPal– The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has reported a disturbing incident at Israel’s Etzion prison, where a significant number of Palestinian prisoners fell ill due to food poisoning.
The prisoners were allegedly served spoiled meals by the prison administration, sparking outrage and raising serious concerns about their treatment and welfare.
According to the Commission, Palestinian prisoners in Etzion shared with their lawyer, during a rare visit on Sunday, that they were grappling with the debilitating effects of food poisoning.
The lawyer revealed that several prisoners in Etzion endured intense abdominal pain, accompanied by relentless vomiting and diarrhea. The ordeal left them frail, emaciated, and struggling with persistent dizziness.
The Commission accused the Israeli prison service of employing brutal punitive measures against detainees since the onset of the devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023. These measures including prolonged starvation and the deliberate provision of inadequate and spoiled food have intensified their suffering.
The Commission highlighted that prisoners in Etzion who dare to protest against such mistreatment and punitive measures risk harsh retaliation, including solitary confinement and brutal beatings.
It called on the international community to take immediate action to end the plight of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and ensure the protection of their fundamental rights.
