DaysofPal – Weeks into the ceasefire, Palestinians in Gaza are still struggling to receive basic humanitarian aid, with thousands of families left without food, medicine, or shelter as winter draws near. Despite international promises of relief, aid distribution remains paralyzed by Israeli restrictions that continue to block the entry of critical supplies.
Reports from Gaza’s Government Media Office confirm that the Israeli military has denied entry to adequate quantities of tents for the areas devastated by Israeli bombardments over the past two years. The office said the Strip urgently needs over 300,000 tents to house displaced families who have lost everything in the war.
For most Palestinians, the ceasefire is not only about ending the bombing; it is about survival. “People are waiting not just for food, but for shelter,” one local official said, describing scenes of families huddled in makeshift tents made of plastic sheets and debris. “The cold is coming, and many will not withstand it.”
International and UN organizations confirm that the aid entering Gaza is far below the minimum needed to sustain life. The blockade remains in full effect, while food, fuel, and medical supplies trickle in at a rate humanitarian agencies call “catastrophically insufficient.”
While Israeli authorities insist that aid flows into Gaza “regularly” and deny the existence of famine, UN and UNICEF reports paint a starkly different picture. Hundreds of aid trucks remain stalled at crossing points, with only a fraction allowed in each day.
UNICEF has warned that Gaza’s health system is collapsing, with hospitals running out of medicines, fuel, and medical supplies, and most health facilities damaged or destroyed.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) confirmed that Israeli occupation authorities are blocking the entry of shelter materials and winter supplies intended for displaced people. The agency said these supplies have been stockpiled in warehouses in Jordan and Egypt, awaiting clearance for weeks.
In a statement, UNRWA warned that hundreds of thousands of families in Gaza are living in fragile, makeshift shelters that offer no protection from the elements. “With winter approaching and rains beginning, the lives of children, the elderly, and the sick are in grave danger,” the agency said, calling the situation a looming humanitarian catastrophe.
UNRWA urged the international community to immediately pressure Israel to allow the entry of relief materials and ensure the free flow of essential aid to Gaza. The agency also called for the unhindered resumption of humanitarian operations, emphasizing that providing shelter and warmth is now a matter of life and death for Gaza’s displaced population.
