Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital Faces Imminent Shutdown After Generator Failure

DaysofPal – Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital has warned of an imminent threat to its continued operation after its second main power generator shut down, three months after the first primary generator stopped working. The hospital said it lacks the oil supplies and spare parts required to repair and safely restart both generators.

In a statement, the hospital explained that following the failure of the two main generators, it is now operating only on two small backup generators. It described the current situation as extremely fragile, unable to guarantee stable or continuous medical services.

Hundreds of patients, wounded individuals, and medical staff are at serious risk, particularly in intensive care units, neonatal incubators, operating rooms, and other critical departments.

The hospital warned that the ongoing situation could force a complete shutdown at any moment, calling it a new humanitarian and health catastrophe, adding to the mounting challenges facing the medical sector.

It urged immediate and urgent intervention to repair the main generators and to provide the necessary oil and spare parts without delay. Any postponement, it said, would carry severe consequences.

The administration stressed that protecting healthcare facilities and ensuring their uninterrupted operation is both a legal and moral responsibility. Delays in maintenance and fuel provision would deepen the crisis and endanger lives.

Israeli forces continue to escalate violations of the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, carrying out intensive air and artillery strikes and demolishing residential buildings across various areas of the Gaza Strip. The attacks have resulted in additional casualties while the health sector struggles to cope with growing pressure and warnings that more hospitals may cease operations.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 529 people have been killed and 1,462 injured since the ceasefire was announced, in addition to 717 bodies recovered.

The overall toll of the war since October 7, 2023, has risen to 71,803 killed and 171,570 injured, with a number of victims still trapped under rubble or lying in the streets, as ambulance and civil defense crews remain unable to reach them.
