DaysofPal – Khaled Mashal, head of Hamas’s abroad office, stated that the difficult phase currently facing the Palestinian people and their cause requires unifying and mobilizing all efforts to serve the people of the Gaza Strip and stand by them to lead them to safety.
He made his comments in a statement congratulating Khalil al-Hayya on winning the confidence of Hamas’ General Shura Council and being elected head of the movement’s Political Bureau. Meshaal wished him success in carrying out what he described as a great responsibility during a critical period.
The election was held in accordance with the movement’s internal regulations and bylaws,” Meshaal said, describing the process as institutional and reflecting Hamas’ commitment to the principle of consultation (shura) and respect for its governing rules.
“This is an approach we take pride in and are committed to strengthening, as it is one of the movement’s core principles and a source of its strength and resilience,” he said.
Meshaal added that he had informed members of the General Shura Council that he fully respected the election results and that he, together with all members of Hamas, would stand behind the leadership of Dr. Khalil al-Hayya (Abu Osama).
He said the movement would work alongside al-Hayya and Hamas officials in various leadership positions “in a spirit of brotherhood and integration” to serve the Palestinian people and their cause.
Meshaal also reaffirmed support for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem in confronting the Israeli occupation and settlement expansion. He stressed the importance of continuing efforts on behalf of Palestinian prisoners while placing the interests of the Palestinian people and their national cause above all other considerations and working with national partners on that basis.
Mashal concluded by emphasizing a shared path toward freedom, resistance to the occupation, and fulfilling the people’s hopes for liberation, return, and independence.
The announcement came after the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) declared on Monday the election of leader Khalil al-Hayya as head of its Political Bureau, succeeding the martyred leader Yahya Sinwar.
