DaysofPal- Israeli occupation authorities have issued new and renewed administrative detention orders against 38 Palestinians from various areas across the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said on Monday.
The organizations said the orders, issued against detainees from several West Bank governorates, range from one to six months. The decisions included both first-time administrative detention orders and extensions of existing detention periods.
The new and renewed orders affected Palestinians from Jenin, Nablus, Bethlehem, Hebron, Tulkarm, Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Qalqilya, Jerusalem, and other areas. The organizations said dozens of detainees continue to face prolonged detention without formal charges or trial.
Administrative detention is a measure used by Israeli authorities to imprison Palestinians without charge or trial based on secret evidence that is not disclosed to detainees or their lawyers. Under Israeli military law, detention orders can be renewed indefinitely, leaving many Palestinians in prolonged legal uncertainty.
The detainees’ rights groups said the continued expansion of administrative detention has become a widespread practice against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, amid a sharp increase in arrests since the beginning of the war on Gaza.
They called for an end to the use of administrative detention and for the release of Palestinians held without trial.
