DaysofPal-The Ministry of Agriculture in Gaza said the agricultural sector has suffered widespread devastation during the ongoing Israeli war, causing a near-total collapse of its agricultural production system.
In a statement, the ministry said more than 85% of agricultural assets across most subsectors have been damaged or destroyed. The assessment was based on high-resolution aerial imagery, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and official agricultural databases.
According to the ministry, total losses in the agricultural sector have reached approximately $3.49 billion. Of that amount, $1.90 billion represents direct damage to agricultural infrastructure and assets, while $1.59 billion reflects indirect economic losses.
The ministry said the unprecedented destruction has left the agricultural production system almost completely paralyzed, severely undermining food security for Gaza’s population. It added that thousands of families have lost their primary source of income, increasing dependence on humanitarian assistance.
The ministry called on the international community, United Nations agencies, and donor organizations to take immediate action to support the recovery, rehabilitation, and revitalization of Gaza’s agricultural sector.
