Gaza Government Dissolves Emergency Committee Ahead of Planned Administrative Handover

DayofPal — Government authorities in the Gaza Strip announced on Monday the dissolution of the Government Emergency Committee as part of preparations to transfer governance to the National Committee for Gaza Administration, under an agreed transitional arrangement with Palestinian factions.

The move coincided with the resignation of Mohammed Abdel Khaleq Al-Farra, acting head of the Government Follow-up Committee and chairman of the Emergency Committee, in a move to facilitate the handover process and meet the political and administrative requirements of the transition.

In a statement, the Government Media Office said all legal and administrative arrangements for transferring authority had been completed after consultations with representatives of Palestinian factions, civil society organizations, and a UN representative.

The statement added that employees of government institutions will continue carrying out their technical and professional duties to ensure uninterrupted public services until the National Committee officially assumes its responsibilities.

Officials called for the swift empowerment of the National Committee to begin its work, saying the transition is intended to improve humanitarian conditions and strengthen the resilience of Gaza’s population amid the ongoing war, blockade, delayed reconstruction, and the continued closure of border crossings.

Researcher and journalist Wesan Afifa commented on Facebook that the goverment move  goes beyond a routine administrative decision; it opened the door to a new test. The step appears to be more than a change in leadership; it signals the Gaza administration’s determination to move from the stage of understandings to practical implementation.

This development shifts the responsibility to the other parties involved, including mediators, sponsoring states, and the U.S. administration, all of whom are now expected to demonstrate their commitment to the agreed arrangements, he added.

He questioned whether these commitments will translate into concrete action or whether delays and justifications will once again stall implementation.

Meanwhile, the temporary measures put in place to manage government affairs reflect an effort to ensure the continuity of public services and prevent any administrative vacuum, without establishing a permanent alternative.

Ultimately, what has taken place is not the end of a process but the beginning of a decisive new phase as the implementation is no longer an option that can be postponed.
