DaysofPal — The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) issued a grave warning on Tuesday about the escalating food crisis and the near-total collapse of the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip.
In its statement, UNRWA reported that around 250,000 Palestinians are currently enduring catastrophic hunger, classified as Phase 5—the most severe level of food insecurity. An additional 950,000 individuals are on the brink of famine, falling into Phases 4 and 5 of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).
The agency emphasized that nearly one million people are at immediate risk, facing the highest levels of food insecurity and potential starvation.
UNRWA confirmed that widespread malnutrition now affects hundreds of thousands of vulnerable groups, including children, infants, pregnant women, and mothers, due to prolonged shortages of food and humanitarian assistance.
It also revealed that approximately 70,000 children are suffering from acute malnutrition, a condition that poses life-threatening risks without urgent medical intervention.
The agency warned that the ongoing crisis will have devastating long-term health impacts, especially as the healthcare infrastructure continues to collapse and aid deliveries remain severely restricted.
