Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday demolished three Palestinian houses in the West Bank districts of Jerusalem and Hebron, confirmed local sources.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center, a Silwan-based watchdog, said that Israeli police demolished a house in the Occupied Jerusalem neighbourhood of Jabal al-Mukaber.
Police cordoned off the area of Deir al-Sunna in the neighbourhood, as a bulldozer tore down a house belonging to Fouad Ghurouf purportedly for being built without a license.
Meanwhile, two Palestinian houses were demolished in the Hebron-district refugee camp of al-Arroub under the pretext of unlicensed building.
Khaled Khanna, a resident of the camp, said that an Israeli military force escorted a bulldozer into the camp, where the heavy machinery demolished his own house as well as his brother’s.
The two houses, each of which occupied an area of 200 square meters, were demolished despite the fact that the Khanna brothers had filed a petition to Israeli courts against the demolition a year ago.
Using the pretext of illegal building, Israel demolishes houses on a regular basis to restrict Palestinian expansion in occupied Jerusalem.
At the same time, the municipality and government build tens of thousands of housing units in illegal settlements in Occupied Jerusalem for Jews with a goal to offset the demographic balance in favor of the Jewish settlers in the occupied city.
Although Palestinians in Occupied Jerusalem, a part of the internationally recognized Palestinian Territory that has been subject to Israeli military occupation since 1967, they are denied their citizenship rights and are instead classified only as "residents" whose permits can be revoked if they move away from the city for more than a few years.
They are also discriminated against in all aspects of life including housing, employment and services, and are unable to access services in the West Bank due to the construction of Israel's separation wall.
