Media campaign to boycott the Eurovision in Israel

Days Of Palestine [ Gaza] – A media campaign was launched on Thursday to shed light on the Israeli shamelessly using the Eurovision as part of its official Brand Israel strategy, which presents  “Israel’s prettier face” to whitewash and distract attention from its war crimes against Palestinians.

The Days Of Palestine's Team launched the "Twitter Storm" under the hashtags #MadonnaDontGo and #BoycottEurovision2019, calling the world to boycott Eurovision 2019 and to ask Madonna and other participant artists to boycott the concert.

“We are aiming to highlight the shameless Israeli policy that uses the world's occasions to whitewash and distract attention from its war crimes against Palestinians,” Bahaa Shammala, one of the campaign organizers said.

The campaign, which is set to run until 14 May, also aims to mobilize the international public opinion of solidarity with Gaza and work to lift the siege, according to the D.O.P Team.

Israel massacred 62 Palestinians in Gaza, including six children just two days after its 2018 Eurovision win. That same evening, Netta Barzilai performed a celebratory concert in Tel Aviv, hosted by the mayor, and said, “We have a reason to be happy.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called Barzilai “the best ambassador of Israel,” underlining his far-right government’s art-washing agenda.

Palestinians have called on EBU members to boycott Eurovision 2019 if hosted by Israel, regardless of its location.

“We call on activists and institutions supporting the Palestinian cause to join our efforts and to contribute to conveying the voice of the Palestinian people to the world by exposing the practices of the occupation which violate the most basic rights recognised by international laws,” Shammala added.
