DaysofPal- The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Prisoners’ Club reported that 54 Palestinian prisoners, whose identities are confirmed, have been killed under torture in Israeli prisons since the onset of the Israeli genocide against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
Among them, 35 victims are from the Gaza Strip, which highlights the continued targeting and suffering from Palestinian detainees in the Israeli terrible jails.
Moreover, dozens of Gaza detainees remain forcibly disappeared as the Israeli occupation continues to withhold the bodies of the dead prisoners.
The Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Prisoners’ Club issued a joint press statement on Palestinian Martyr’s Day, observed annually on January 7, revealing that among the 54 martyr prisoners since October 7, 2023, are 35 from the Gaza Strip whose identities are known.
The statement also highlighted that the Israeli occupation continues to conceal the fate of dozens of martyrs among Gaza detainees.
Since 1967, a total of 291 prisoners and detainees whose identities are confirmed have been killed under torture in Israeli custody, in addition to those killed in field executions.
The statement further disclosed that the bodies of 63 martyr prisoners remain withheld by the Israeli occupation, including 52 since the beginning of the Israeli genocide against Gaza.
Meanwhile, dozens of martyrs from among Gaza’s detainees are still forcibly disappeared, with their fate unknown.
Five Palestinian Detainees Martyred in Israeli Prisons Within 24 Hours
At the end of last month, December 2024, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club announced the deaths of four detainees from Gaza under torture, just one day after confirming the death of the Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails, Ashraf Abu Warda.
The newly announced martyrs are:
- Muhammad Rashid Akka (44 years old)
- Samir Mahmoud Al-Kahlout (52 years old)
- Zuhair Omar Al-Sharif (58 years old)
- Muhammad Anwar Lobad (57 years old)
This brings the total number of Palestinian prisoners who died in Israeli prisons within 24 hours to five.
The continuous targeting and deaths of Palestinian detainees highlight the dire conditions and violations within Israeli prisons.
Prisoners’ Institutions Warn of Systematic Liquidation of Palestinian Detainees by Israeli Occupation
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club have described the rising number of prisoners killed in Israeli prisons as an escalating humanitarian disaster.
In a joint statement, they reiterated warnings about the Israeli occupation’s systematic and deliberate efforts to liquidate detainees, stating that these crimes are being committed publicly and without any regard for basic human rights or international humanitarian standards.
Additionally, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club emphasized that time is now the decisive factor in determining the fate of prisoners, as the systematic crimes committed by the Israeli occupation—particularly the unprecedented levels of torture—persist.
They warned that such practices will inevitably result in the deaths of more detainees.
The institutions further stated that the treatment of prisoners and detainees represents another facet of the ongoing Israeli genocide.
They asserted that its goal was to carry out more executions, assassinations, and liquidations targeting Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club reiterated that the rising number of martyrs among prisoners and detainees is expected to take a more dangerous turn as time passes.
Thousands of detainees remain in Israeli occupation prisons, where they are subjected to systematic crimes, including torture, starvation, physical and sexual assaults, medical neglect, and the deliberate imposition of conditions that lead to the spread of serious and contagious diseases.
Furthermore, the institutions highlighted policies of theft and deprivation imposed on detainees—unprecedented in their severity—as part of the occupation’s systematic effort to degrade and harm prisoners.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, and all relevant institutions have held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the martyrdom of detainees in its prisons.
In their statement, they renewed calls for the international human rights system to take decisive and effective actions to hold Israeli leaders accountable for the war crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
They urged the imposition of sanctions on the Israeli occupation to enforce international isolation and restore the human rights system to its foundational purpose.
The institutions emphasized the need to end the alarming state of global inaction in the face of the ongoing war of extermination and to dismantle the exceptional immunity granted to Israel by former colonial powers, which continues to shield it from accountability and punishment for its crimes.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club revealed that, as of early December, the number of prisoners recognized by the Israeli prison administration exceeded 10,300. However, the crime of enforced disappearance continues to be inflicted on hundreds of detainees from Gaza, who are held in camps operated by the Israeli occupation army.
Among the detainees are:
- 89 female prisoners
- At least 345 children
- 3,428 administrative detainees
This alarming situation underscores the Israeli systematic violations of international law and human rights, particularly against vulnerable groups.
