A powerful ‘suicide’ bomb exploded on Friday, September 29th, 2023, at a rally celebrating the Prophet Mohammad’s birthday in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, claiming the lives of at least 52 persons and wounding 58 others.
The district health official, Abdul Rasheed, reported that the toll could further rise as many people are in a serious condition.
Local officials said the bomb exploded near a mosque in Mastung district of Balochistan, but senior local police officer, Javed Lehri, added that “It seems a suicide attack”, in which the bomber blew himself up near the vehicle of Deputy Superintendent of Police Nawaz Gishkori.
No group or individuals has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
The bombing came days after authorities urged police to remain on maximum alert as armed groups could target rallies marking the mentioned Islamic occasion.
“The attack on innocent people who came to participate in Prophet Mohammed’s birthday is a very heinous act,” Pakistan’s interior ministry said in a statement.
Muslims around the world celebrate the birthday of Islam’s prophet by holding public gatherings and activities, including Islamic songs and recitation of the holy Quran.
In occupied Palestine, Israeli occupation forces imposed restrictions on people marking this occasion, preventing hundreds of worshippers from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque to pray and attacking those who join gatherings at Bab Al-Amoud Plaza of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
